Dog and Cat Application

Caged Animal Application

Reptile Application

1. Please fill out an application. This gives us information that we will use to determine if this is a good match for the foster pet. Our adoptions are not on a first come, first serve basis. We review all applicants and determine which home would be the best placement for the animal. We factor many things into this decision such as family dynamic and lifestyle. We would not want to place a very active large breed puppy or a fearful small breed into a home with smaller children for safety reasons. We also look at the needs of the animal. We want to make sure the adoptive family is able to care for the medical needs of some of our special needs animals or that a family will be able to keep up with a very active breed that may need some training. We also look at how animals get along. We understand that some animals just do better as only pets and that sometimes cats and dogs just don't get along. Just because you may not be selected for one animal in particular, that doesn't mean that you will not be able to adopt one more suited to your family and lifestyle.

We strongly suggest you research the animal you are looking to adopt. Please make sure you truly understand the traits of the breeds or animals you are looking into. Also, research and talk with your vet to make absolutely sure you understand and are ready to take on the needs of some of our special needs animals. Some of those needs may include, but it not limited to, deafness, blindness, seizures, feather plucking, missing or malformed appendages from birth defects or accidents, or other congenital birth defects.

2. We will conduct a prescreen interview. We will learn more about you and what you are looking for. We will go over the animal you are looking to adopt, if you are applying for a certain animal. We will explain our process to you and make you we are both on the same page. We can also explain some of their special needs in more detail if necessary. Also, some of our exotics require different or special care such as dust baths and other habitat requirements.

3. We will check your references. We will contact your vet to make sure your pet(s) are well taken care of. They should be altered, current on recommended vaccinations, current on any preventatives, and be as healthy as they can be. We do understand that sometimes as pets age, they do have medical issues. We want to make sure they are being treated for those issues as well as they can be.

4. We will set up a Home Visit. We are not looking to see how your curtains match your couch. We are looking to see how the pet you would like to adopt will fit into your home. Do you have a yard large enough for running? Do you have a lot of stairs and looking to adopt and older dog that may have issues with them as they age? Do you have an appropriate area for food and litter boxes? Is your home safe of an animal? We look for any sources of hazard for the pet you are looking to adopt such as hazardous plants, chemicals, exposed wires, and the like. Basically, do you have a way to keep them safe in your home and yard just as you would keep a child safe. Do you have the necessary equipment and appropriate place for the animal you are looking to adopt?

This process gets you approved to adopt. Once approved at this point, you will not have to go through this again unless it has been some years since you applied last. This process will get your approval for any animal that will fit into your home, family, and lifestyle. We use all of these steps to make sure you are will be responsible with the pet you are looking to adopt and that the pet you are looking to adopt will be a good match for you.

5. Either at the Home Visit or after, we will do the Meet-n-Greet. You will have an opportunity to meet your possible new companion(s). Up to this point , either party can decide not to go through with the adoption. You are not bound by the application or any part of the approval process.

6. If all the previous steps have been completed, we will do the adoption. We will have forms to fill out and payments to take. Then we will leave you to begin a new life with your new beloved companion!
