Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary established in late 2004 by Amber Kay. Fur Angels is a rescue without a physical shelter. The rescue does not believe in putting animals in a shelter type of environment (left in crates with only few hours of freedom and exercise a day) like most shelters out there.
The rescue uses foster homes, homes of everyday people like you, in order to provide the animals rescued the best kind of environment to grow in and develop social skills. This also enables the foster home to communicate with the rescue any problems that may have been unknown until then.
Rescued dogs are placed in foster homes, allowed to learn the house rules, to become housebroken, and to learn appropriate behavior. This ensures that when they are finally adopted into forever homes, the placement would have a higher success rate, and less chances of being returned back to the rescue. This also ensures that we make good match between animals adopted and adopters from good homes. For example, if we rescue a dog, and found out the dog is not good with children; we will make sure homes that the dog might be adopted to are homes where there are no children. We always need more foster homes. There are always animals in need.
What Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary does is pull (save) animals scheduled to be put to sleep from kill shelters. We work with mostly deaf animals because they are usually first to be killed. Many shelters feel that they are not adoptable and that no one would want a deaf animal. They also feel that deaf dogs cannot be trained. Fur Angels will save those deaf animals and foster them, while working on finding them a forever home to live in. Many heartless people, who once had those pets, would dump them at shelters, not willing to work with their deafness.
Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary is a no kill rescue. This means we do not put down any of our animals we rescue. Only reasons we would ever put down an animal are if they are too sick or they are aggressive. We do not adopt out animals that have been proven aggressive. Sometimes we would rescue animals in need of surgery, and we would raise funds to get the medical care for those animals. Sometimes they would be in foster homes until they have recovered. Once in a while, an adoptive home may be approved with the knowledge of the animals' medical need.
We do also work with some animals that are not deaf. You will have seen many posts Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary have sent, searching for homes for animals in need. However, the sad thing is, our resources are very small. We can only save a few animals at a time. We work on those animals we have right now, to find homes, before we can go and save more animals. Every animal we get always sees a vet and is made sure they have all of their shots and that they are spayed or neutered (fixed). We are fighting the overpopulation problem of pets. Some of the main reasons why there are so many homeless animals because of overpopulation and not enough homes. Every month, thousand of animals are killed just because there are no homes available.
We charge an adoption fee. This makes sure that people who show interest are really interested, and are capable of taking good care of their pets. The adoption fee is usually less than that of a shelter. This is a very good deal. Most of the time, people would buy their pets from pet stores or private breeders, or backyard breeders for few hundred dollars. THEN you still have to take the pet to the vet to pay for all the shots the pet needs. The cost varies $50 to $100 or more. THEN you have to pay for the pet to be spayed or neutered. Most vets charge you for $150 or more, and can exceed $200 or more. Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary saves costs by having all pets fixed, have all shots, and all this for a lesser fee. Therefore, you are saving a pet's life by adopting a pet from Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary and saving money as well. This also allows us to go out and save more animals before they die.
Every interested adopter will be expected to fill out an application for adoption. This does not mean you are stuck and have to adopt the pet even if you change your mind. This is the beginning of the process for adoption. This allows us to screen homes and learn more about each possible adoptive home, and make sure that we can make a good match. We also require vet information so we can contact your vet to make sure there is no history of animal abuse or cruelty by you or your family. We make sure our animals that are adopted, go into great homes where they will be loved, fed, taken care of, and never abused.
Even if you would like to help but are unable to adopt a pet today, please share information about every pet in need with your friends and family. You may never know if one of them would be interested and be a good match for one of our pets.
We always need donations of food, toys, leashes, collars, and crates. We always need more foster homes. Will you not share your life with a lucky pet waiting for a good home with you? Adopt a pet today.
